The absolute basics: introduce yourself, talk about everyday things, and form simple present-tense sentences in German.
- The verb "sein" (to be: bin, bist, ist...)
- The verb "haben" (to have: habe, hast, hat...)
- Personal pronouns (ich, du, er, sie, es, wir, ihr, sie/Sie)
- Present tense: regular verbs
- Word order: the verb in second position
- W-questions (wer, was, wo, wann, wie, warum)
- Yes/no questions (verb first)
- Noun gender (der, die, das)
- Definite articles in the nominative (der, die, das)
- Indefinite articles in the nominative (ein, eine, ein)
- Plural of nouns
- Negation with "nicht" and "kein"
- Present tense: stem-changing verbs (fahren → fährt, essen → isst)
- Modal verbs and "möchten": können, müssen, wollen, dürfen, möchten
- The accusative case
- Articles in the accusative (den, einen, keinen)
- Personal pronouns in the accusative (mich, dich, ihn, sie, es...)
- Separable verbs (aufstehen, einkaufen)
- The imperative (du, ihr, Sie forms)
- Possessive articles in the nominative and accusative (mein, dein, sein...)
- "es gibt" (there is / there are)
- Basic prepositions of place and time (in, aus, nach, bei, um, am)
