Wenn du aus einer ganzen Gruppe die Nummer eins herausgreifst — the tallest person in the room, the cheapest phone in the shop, the most interesting book on the shelf — brauchst du den Superlativ des Adjektivs: tallest, cheapest, most interesting.

Kurzes Adjektiv → the + -est (old → the oldest). Langes Adjektiv → the most davor (the most useful).

Warum the? Ein Superlativ zeigt auf genau ein Ding — the tallest building in the world, the best day of my life. Davon gibt es nur eines, es ist konkret und einzigartig, und the ist genau der Artikel, den das Englische für eine konkrete, bekannte Sache verwendet (derselbe bestimmte Artikel the wie in the sun, the moon). Das the ist also keine überflüssige Zierde — es steht da, weil der Superlativ ein einziges Ding heraushebt.

Kurze Adjektive: the + -est

An die meisten einsilbigen Adjektive hängst du -est an — und stellst the davor:

  • cheap → the cheapestThis is the cheapest phone in the shop.
  • old → the oldestShe's the oldest in her class.
  • fast → the fastestIt's the fastest train in the country.

Regel Beispiel
(die meisten kurzen Adjektive) -est anhängen cheap → the cheapest, small → the smallest
-e nur -st anhängen nice → the nicest, large → the largest
ein Vokal + ein Konsonant Konsonant verdoppeln, -est anhängen big → the biggest, hot → the hottest
Konsonant + -y -y → -iest happy → the happiest, easy → the easiest

Wie beim Komparativ gilt das Muster -y → -iest auch für viele zweisilbige Adjektive auf -y: busy → the busiest, friendly → the friendliest, pretty → the prettiest.

Lange Adjektive: the most

Bei Adjektiven mit zwei oder mehr Silben (außer den -y-Fällen oben) änderst du die Endung nicht — du stellst the most davor:

  • expensive → the most expensiveThis is the most expensive restaurant in town.
  • careful → the most carefulHe's the most careful driver I know.
  • interesting → the most interestingIt was the most interesting part of the trip.
  • beautiful → the most beautifulThat's the most beautiful beach on the island.

Das Adjektiv selbst bleibt unverändert — ✅ the most expensive, niemals ❌ the most expensivest.

Um zu sagen, was in einer Eigenschaft am geringsten ausgeprägt ist, nimmst du genauso the least: This is the least expensive option.

  • in + ein einzelner Ort oder eine Gruppe: the tallest building in the world, the best student in the class, the cheapest café in town (dasselbe in town wie oben).
  • of + Plural oder Menge: the youngest of the three brothers, the best day of my life, the hardest of all.

Eine praktische Faustregel: in steht oft bei Orten, Bereichen oder Gruppen (in the world, in my family, in the country); of steht bei einer Menge oder einem Set von einzelnen Elementen (of the three, of my friends, of them all).

one of the + Superlativ + Substantiv im Plural

  • It's one of the best films of the year.
  • She's one of the most talented players in the team.
  • one of the best film → ✅ one of the best films (das Substantiv muss im Plural stehen)

Adjektiv Komparativ Superlativ
good better the best
bad worse the worst
far farther / further the farthest / the furthest
  • This is the best coffee in town.
  • That was the worst film I've ever seen.
  • Which station is the furthest from here?

  • Zwei Dinge → Komparativ: Anna is taller than Ben.

  • She is the most tall. → ✅ She is the tallest. (kurzes Adjektiv nimmt -est)
  • It's the most biggest city. → ✅ It's the biggest city. (nie most + -est zusammen)
  • He's most careful driver. → ✅ He's the most careful driver. (the nicht weglassen)
  • This is the goodest one. → ✅ This is the best one. (good ist unregelmäßig)
  • the tallest of the world → ✅ the tallest in the world (in für einen Ort)
  • one of the best film → ✅ one of the best films (Plural nach one of the)
  • It's the most easy test. → ✅ It's the easiest test. (-y → -iest)

Kurzer Test

Bilde den Superlativ (mit the) und wähle in oder of, wo es passt:

  1. Mount Everest is ____ (high) mountain ____ the world.
  2. That was ____ (bad) day ____ my life.
  3. This is ____ (expensive) restaurant in town.
  4. She's ____ (young) ____ the four sisters.
  5. It's one of ____ (interesting) ____ (book) I've read.
Lösungen anzeigen
  1. the highest … in   2. the worst … of   3. the most expensive   4. the youngest … of   5. the most interesting books (one of the + Superlativ + Substantiv im Plural)

  • Kurzes Adjektiv → the + -est (the cheapest, the oldest); langesthe most (the most expensive). Nie beides und das the nicht weglassen.
  • Die Schreibregeln entsprechen denen des Komparativs: nice → the nicest, big → the biggest, happy → the happiest.
  • Lern die unregelmäßigen Formen: good → the best, bad → the worst, far → the farthest / furthest.
  • Benenne die Gruppe mit in (ein Ort: in the world) oder of (eine Menge: of the three) und merk dir one of the + Superlativ + Substantiv im Plural.
